Mahaffay Amplifiers has roots in a lifelong passion for music, electronics, recording technology, and professional sound. The company’s story began with an early fascination with audio equipment, speakers, wiring, tape machines, and the recording process, followed by hands-on experience with drums, guitar, live performances, recording, and the Southern California music scene. This combination of musical experience and technical expertise eventually led to years of experimenting with guitar amplifiers, modifying circuits, and refining tone. In 1990, the business that would become Mahaffay Amplifiers was established as a home-based operation focused on designing and testing innovative musical instrument products. Drawing on extensive knowledge of electronics and the needs of working musicians, the company began developing compact, powerful tube amplifier solutions designed to deliver exceptional sound, reliability, and portability.

Mahaffay Amplifiers introduced its signature Little Lanilei Tube Amp concept through years of research, experimentation, and sourcing specialized components, culminating in its debut at the 1997 winter NAMM Show. Designed for musicians seeking a small but powerful tube amplifier, the Little Lanilei quickly attracted attention for its unique design, hand-built construction, and distinctive tonal character. Today, Mahaffay Amplifiers continues the tradition of building musical instrument products one at a time, using high-quality components and point-to-point construction. Alongside the Little Lanilei tube amplifier lineup, the company has developed additional specialty products, including the Little Lanilei Rotary Wave Speaker.
